Ruby Dance Classes for
Year 1 Children
Ruby is KBDA’s 60-minute combination class for Year 1 children in Hook, Hampshire. The programme brings together ballet, tap, modern and creative movement, providing a varied introduction to more structured dance training.
Children begin working with selected foundations from RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern. Creative work is informed by Rambert Grades Creative Movers, which encourages children to explore movement, music, and their own ideas alongside set exercises.
Classes develop coordination, musicality, movement recall, strength and physical confidence. Children learn recognisable dance vocabulary, remember short sequences and work independently, with partners and as part of a group.
Performance skills are also developed throughout Ruby. Children learn to respond to cues, move into simple formations and perform with growing confidence and expression.
Optional weekday Acro classes are available for children who would like to further develop their strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. Saturday Mini Musical Theatre provides an additional opportunity to explore singing, acting and dance.
No previous dance experience is required. Children progressing from Emerald will recognise familiar foundations, while new starters are supported as they settle into the class.
Families are invited to Watch Days during the year to see what the children have been learning. Children also receive certificates upon completing key stages of their KBDA Junior School journey.
