Dance Education for
Year Ten + Children
At Year 10 and beyond, students at Karen Blackburn Dance Academy in Hook have the flexibility to pursue dance either as examination-focused training or recreational study, depending on their personal goals.
Those working at higher grades or vocational levels are required to attend a minimum number of classes weekly to cover their syllabus fully or to engage in regular private coaching sessions outside the standard timetable. Many of these advanced dance qualifications carry valuable UCAS points, supporting students who plan to apply to university with a strong dance portfolio.

Placement in classes is based on ability rather than age, ensuring students receive the most appropriate training for their level. This approach is especially beneficial in genres such as Musical Theatre and Contemporary, where students, including late starters with little or no previous experience, can join classes alongside their peers. KBDA welcomes discussions to find the best pathways for all dancers, no matter their starting point.

Private coaching remains available for those aiming to prepare for examinations in Ballet, Tap, or Modern, providing focused, one-on-one guidance to enhance technique and performance.
Supplementary Sunday Studio sessions provide additional opportunities to refine skills, explore new styles, and enhance confidence, thereby enriching the weekly training schedule.

While assessments and exams are offered across many dance styles, participation is always optional, allowing students to tailor their dance journey to their aspirations.

This advanced programme at KBDA supports dancers in refining their skills, gaining qualifications, and exploring creative expression in a supportive, professional environment - preparing them for both higher education and lifelong involvement in dance.
