From Year 10, students at Karen Blackburn Dance Academy in Hook can shape their training around recreational enjoyment, examinations, performance or preparation for further training in dance and musical theatre.

Classes are available across Ballet, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Street Dance, Musical Theatre and Acro. Placement considers experience, technical level, physical readiness, and age to help each student access appropriate training and progression.

​

Students working towards higher grades or vocational examinations will need to meet the weekly training requirements for their chosen discipline. This may include attending more than one class, with private coaching arranged when there is a specific technical or examination need. The required level of commitment will be discussed clearly with each dancer and their family.

Examinations remain optional. Eligible Level 3 dance qualifications, including selected higher grades and vocational examinations, can carry UCAS tariff points. These may contribute towards university applications, although entry requirements vary between institutions and courses.

Late starters are welcome. Musical Theatre, Contemporary, and selected performance classes can provide accessible entry points for students with limited prior dance experience while still offering progression for established dancers.

​

Selected Sunday workshops, intensives, rehearsals and private coaching provide additional opportunities to refine technique, prepare for performances and work towards individual goals.

Whether a student wants to gain recognised qualifications, prepare for vocational training, perform regularly or continue dancing alongside their other studies, we will help them build a programme that reflects their experience, ambitions and available time.
