Since 2000, KBDA has provided dance and performance training for children, young people and adults in Hook, Hampshire.
We believe every dancer should have the opportunity to develop their creativity, confidence and individuality within a welcoming and supportive school community. Some students join us simply because they love to dance, while others choose to work towards examinations, performances or more intensive training.
With clear pathways and an experienced teaching team, students can build strong foundations, develop their skills and discover where dance can take them.
Along the way, they gain far more than dance technique – developing confidence, independence, resilience and friendships that often continue well beyond the studio.

From our carefully designed early years classes to our progression pathways for older students, we offer a wide range of styles including Ballet, Modern, Tap, Contemporary, Acro, Street and Musical Theatre.
Whether your child wants to dance for enjoyment, take exams, or work towards competitions or performance opportunities, we tailor the experience to suit them – helping build life skills like focus, resilience and creativity along the way.

Ballet
Ballet gives dancers strong foundations that support every style of dance. At KBDA, classes develop posture, coordination, strength, musicality and control through carefully structured, age-appropriate training.
Our ballet programme draws on RAD Ballet and The Royal Ballet School’s Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP). Dancers are supported to progress at the right pace, building confidence, focus and a clear understanding of classical technique while continuing to enjoy movement and performance.

Modern & Tap
Modern and Tap bring energy, rhythm and variety to a dancer’s training. Our ISTD classes develop coordination, musicality, strength and performance skills through clear, progressive teaching.
Tap challenges dancers to listen carefully and create rhythm through their feet, while Modern develops dynamic movement, flexibility and individual performance style. Classes are available for different ages and levels, with optional examinations for those who would like a more structured goal.
Whether a student dances for enjoyment or wants to progress through the grades, we support them with appropriate challenge, clear feedback and plenty of encouragement.
Contemporary
Contemporary dance invites students to move differently, take creative risks and discover new ways to perform. Drawing on the Rambert Grades syllabus, classes combine dynamic technical work with improvisation, choreography and collaborative tasks.
Dancers explore changes of level, direction, energy and movement quality while developing strength, control and physical confidence. They learn set material, create their own movement and work with others to bring ideas to life.
For those who would like a structured goal, Rambert Grades assessments are available, but examinations remain optional.
Acro
Acro brings together dance and acrobatic movement, adding strength, flexibility and a new physical challenge to a dancer’s training.
Led by qualified coaches, classes begin with a solid foundation in rolls, balances, bridges, and handstand preparation. As students develop the required strength, control and confidence, they progress towards skills including walkovers, aerials and partner work. Each skill is taught through safe, structured progressions and introduced when the individual dancer is ready.
Students also learn how to integrate Acro skills seamlessly into choreography, giving them opportunities to apply what they have learnt in routines and performances.
Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre brings singing, acting and dance together, helping students develop as confident and versatile performers.
Our classes provide triple-threat training across all three disciplines. Students learn how to communicate a story, develop a character and combine vocal, acting and movement skills in performance.
Training draws on the RAD Musical Theatre syllabus alongside a varied repertoire from stage and screen. Students work collaboratively, explore different musical theatre styles and develop the confidence to perform both individually and as part of an ensemble.
RAD Musical Theatre examinations and performance awards are available for students who would like a structured goal, but assessments remain optional.

Street Dance
Street Dance gives students the chance to explore rhythm, musicality and individual style in an energetic and welcoming class.
Drawing on foundations from hip-hop, funk and a range of street dance styles, students learn grooves, footwork, isolations and choreography while developing coordination, stamina and performance confidence. They explore how movement changes with different music, dynamics and influences, building a broader understanding of the style rather than simply learning routines.
Classes combine set choreography with opportunities for freestyle and creative input. Students are encouraged to develop their own movement quality, perform with confidence and support others within the group.
Street Dance can be enjoyed as a weekly recreational class or as part of a broader performance pathway, with opportunities to take part in KBDA performances and selected projects.

Sunday Studio
We’re excited to announce the launch of Sunday Studio at KBDA – a brand-new programme of specialist dance workshops running throughout the year. Designed to allow our dancers to develop new skills, refine technique, and explore a variety of styles, Sunday Studio is open to KBDA students of all ages.
From Acro and Contemporary to Classical Greek and more, each workshop is led by experienced teachers who bring expert knowledge and a passion for helping dancers grow in confidence and ability. Whether you’re preparing for competitions, working on a solo, or simply looking to broaden your training, Sunday Studio offers the perfect way to take your dancing further.
