​From Year 4, students at Karen Blackburn Dance Academy in Hook can begin to shape their dance training around their interests, strengths and goals.

Dancers can choose from Ballet, Tap, Modern, Musical Theatre, Street Dance, Jazz, Acro and contemporary dance through Rambert Grades. These classes support technical development, creativity, musicality and performance confidence.

Students may follow one or combine several of the following pathways:

• Recreational pathway: Weekly classes focused on progress, enjoyment and learning without the expectation of examinations or additional performances.

• Examination pathway: More structured technical training with the option to work towards recognised assessments and qualifications when ready.

• Performance pathway: Additional opportunities to develop stagecraft and take part in performances, workshops and selected projects.​

Additional Sunday workshops, intensives and rehearsals may be offered throughout the year. These allow students to explore new styles, work with different teachers and prepare for particular performance opportunities.

There is no single route through KBDA. Examinations and additional performances are optional, and teachers can help each family choose a programme that suits the dancer’s interests and level of commitment.
