Dance Training for
Year 5 & Year 6
In Years 5 and 6, students at Karen Blackburn Dance Academy in Hook can build a broader weekly training programme across a range of dance and performance styles.
Ballet, Tap and Modern are taught as distinct disciplines, allowing students to develop greater technical understanding, strength, musicality and performance quality. Those following the examination pathway may work towards RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap or Modern assessments when they are ready. Examinations remain optional.
Students can also explore Contemporary through Rambert Grades, Musical Theatre, Street Dance, Jazz and Acro. These classes broaden their movement experience and develop creativity, versatility and confidence across different performance styles.
Students may follow a recreational, examination or performance pathway, or combine elements of each. Teachers can help families choose an appropriate balance of classes based on the dancer’s interests, progress and level of commitment.
Private coaching may be arranged for specific technical, examination or performance goals when appropriate. Selected Sunday workshops, intensives and rehearsals also provide opportunities to work on particular skills, explore different styles and prepare for additional performance projects.
As students approach the transition into the Inter stage of KBDA, the programme helps them develop greater independence and make informed choices about the direction of their training.
