Core Foundation Dance Classes for Year 2 Children
Core Foundation supports the transition from the KBDA Junior School into more structured dance training. Designed for Year 2 children in Hook, Hampshire, the programme offers separate Tap & Modern and Ballet classes, which can be taken individually or together.
In Tap & Modern, children develop rhythm, coordination, musicality and movement recall through selected foundations from the ISTD Primary syllabi. Classes combine technical exercises with creative movement and performance work, allowing children to build confidence without the immediate pressure of an examination.
The separate Ballet class introduces and consolidates foundations from RAD Primary Ballet. Children develop posture, control, coordination, classical vocabulary and musical understanding through structured, age-appropriate teaching.
Optional weekday Acro classes are also available, helping children develop strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through carefully taught progressions. Musical Theatre provides an additional opportunity to explore singing, acting and dance.
No previous dance experience is required. Children can join Core Foundation in Year 2 or progress from Ruby with familiar movement foundations and growing independence.
At the end of this stage, dancers receive a Graduation Certificate to recognise their progress as they move from the Junior School into KBDA’s Main School pathways.
