Your Dance Journey

Additional dance pathways are now offered for students from Year 2 and above. In addition to our Dancer Development programme, which prepares students to train in a more focused way to become part of the KBDA Competition Team, our classes now include our Royal Ballet School Programme (ATAP) and Acro.

ATAP Level 1

KBDA is an affiliated school to the Royal Ballet, and from Year 2, students are introduced to the first year of a two-year training programme. Click here to find out more.

ISTD Modern & Tap Grade 1

This ever-evolving dance genre promotes the development of flexibility and strength and is the foundation of the style often seen in West End shows. From the age of 5, students are introduced to the ISTD Modern syllabus, where we combine Modern and Tap in a combined class so students can develop skills in both genres and benefit from the different dance qualities these dance styles provide.

Tap dance is a fantastic way to develop musicality and is an exciting, percussive, rhythmical dance form often seen on screen and on stage in musicals. At this level, children learn the basics of rhythm and tapping, working to various rhythms and music styles.

Dancer Development (Years 1 & 2)

In addition to refining their skills taught in the Jewel Dance Programme, students are now introduced to a wider dance vocabulary to prepare them for competition work, should they wish to be a part of the KBDA Competition Team. There is also now a focus on body conditioning, stagecraft and developing their confidence in performing.

Acro (Year 2-6)

Acro classes are a great way for children to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and much more. Each class begins with a warm-up to target the muscles and ligaments that will be used during the class. Children will learn how to execute movements such as forward rolls and cartwheels, which will progress to more advanced moves, such as walkovers and aerials, once sufficient strength and knowledge have been achieved.

A 'Sharing of Work' day in front of family and friends will also be part of the children's learning journey.
